Therapy is a collaborative process between you and me, your psychologist. During your sessions, you’ll discuss your thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a safe, supportive, and confidential environment. Therapy involves exploring and developing a shared understanding of your difficulties, how they have developed, the factors which maintain them and the things which need to change to improve the quality of your life. You can choose to have sessions face-to-face, over the phone, or via video conferencing; all modes of therapy are equally effective and are offered to give you choice depending on your preference.
-
This is referred to as the assessment phase. The assessment process typically involves the first one to two sessions, where I ask you questions around your mental health and start to better understand the difficulties you're experiencing. This is also an opportunity to tell your story. The assessment process may involve completing questionnaires designed to assess your mental health; this information helps me to create a tailored treatment plan to suits your needs. At the end of the assessment process the I will outline what the treatment plan looks like, and you are given an opportunity to ask any questions before considering to proceed.

Often you will be expected to complete homework or in-between-session tasks; these are tasks which have been discussed and agreed with you in therapy. Tasks are always related to what you are doing in therapy and reinforce the concepts discussed in therapy and help you apply what you’ve learned in your daily life. Completing homework has been shown to enhance the effectiveness of therapy.
-
To measure the effectiveness of therapy, I use validated questionnaires at various points during the treatment. These assessments are completed at the beginning, middle, and end of the therapy process. They help track meaningful changes and ensure that the treatment is progressing as intended. I also ask for your feedback throughout therapy.

Therapy sessions are typically scheduled weekly, lasting 50 minutes each. This regularity allows for consistent progress and support. You can choose to stop therapy at any point, and adjustments can be made based on your circumstances and needs. You will be given a specific day and time for your therapy, this helps organise life around this importance health-related appointment.

If you’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed, experiencing problems with your mood or feelings of anxiety, or facing significant life changes, which is impacting on your quality of life then therapy may be beneficial. It can provide support and tools to help you cope and improve your mental well-being.
