How Therapy Works
I usually see clients face-to-face, however, therapy can be delivered using telephone and/or skype if necessary. Sessions are weekly and last 60 minutes. You can decide to stop therapy at any point. The first one to two sessions are called the Assessment phase where I get to know you and the difficulties you are experiencing. This is achieved using a combination of clinical interview techniques and asking you to complete certain questionnaires which relate to the issues we have been discussing.
If you choose to continue once the assessment is complete we will start an agreed Treatment Plan. You will know exactly what we will be focussing on and roughly how long the treatment phase of therapy will last. You will be involved in all aspects of your therapy, in fact this is vital to any successful and effective course of therapy. You will be required to do tasks in between your therapy sessions, called homework. Research shows that the regularity of sessions and completion of homework tasks has a direct bearing on how effective therapy is.
I always measure the effectiveness of therapy using validated questionnaires. Theses are completed at various points during therapy (beginning, middle and ending) to measure meaningful change. So at the end of therapy not only will you be feeling better but this will be supported by the questionnaires you have completed.
Feel free to complete the following self-report questionnaire which measures how your mood has been over the past two weeks - Questionnaire
